Did you know that if you select a civil marriage celebrant for your marriage you have plenty of choices for your wedding? Not only can you choose to marry anywhere and at any time, except for certain legal requirements, you can change the ceremony to reflect who you are and what is important to you.
Maybe first ask what kind of wedding do you imagine? Can you imagine something very casual and intimate or a more traditional or formal? Whatever your choice the following tips will hopefully give you some ideas to help you create the perfect ceremony.
History
Your wedding is really about you and your guests can enjoy listening to your story. How did you meet? What do you like about each other? What do you enjoy doing together? These data can really mark the occasion and make it unique.
Plays
A reading or poem can express beautifully the thoughts and feelings, and add an extra dimension to your ceremony. Maybe you already have a favorite poem or reading that means something to you, or it could be your chance to pen your own research or hundreds of works available to find the right thing.
Family and friends
Do you have family or friends, past or present, you would like to especially thank? Whether your children, parents, grandparents, siblings, family members or friends, you can include a few words to let them know how much they mean to you.
Vows
In Australia, there are certain legal aspects of the vows that must be said under the Marriage Act 1961 to establish a legal marriage, but outside that, you can include your own vows, which mean something to you. You can search the Internet or books for ideas, or just sit with a pencil and paper and write in your own words why you love your partner and your promises to them.
Rituals and symbols
There are many different rituals that can be represented symbolically to combine the two of you, or perhaps a mixture of family, which may be included in your ceremony. Unity candle, sand ceremony, hand fasting or a dove release are just some of the rituals that can be considered.
Music
What music do you like? Do you prefer live music or CD? Can you imagine a piper bagpipes playing walking down the aisle to Pachelbel's "Canon in D" or maybe Aerosmith "Do not Want to Miss A Thing"?
These are just some ideas to help you create a wedding ceremony that is unique to you. Ultimately, it is your day so it should be all about you!
